WINTER DRIVING: HOW GRASMICK MEETS THE CHALLENGE
Some call it Snowpocalpse 2017. Others say it’s Snowmaggedon. Whatever you call it, this record-setting winter has brought more than its fair share of headaches, especially on the region’s roadways.
Regardless of snow, ice or wind, Grasmick Produce is committed to our customers and delivery schedule. That means before winter even arrives, we ensure our fleet is well-equipped to meet the demands of winter travel. Once a storm rolls in, our drivers rely on their wealth of winter driving experience to make their deliveries on time.
“We know our customers expect the best from us, and we want to make sure they have what they need to serve their own customers,” says President Angela Grasmick-Reed. “That’s why we work so hard to make sure our trucks arrive as expected, even in bad conditions.”
Below, Grasmick-Reed details the many ways that Grasmick Produce prepares for and manages its fleet and delivery schedules during weather challenges.
Q: How does Grasmick Produce prepare its refrigerated delivery trucks for winter weather?
Angela: To prepare for winter driving, Grasmick thoroughly checks its fleet to ensure that all trucks have good tread in their tires and that all fluids and systems are in good operating condition. We also equip all of our tractor trailers with chains so we can keep the tractors moving in bad weather.
Q: What kind of experience do Grasmick delivery drivers have with hazardous driving conditions?
A: Grasmick Produce’s drivers are very experienced in driving in winter weather conditions. Nearly all of our drivers have worked for the company through several Idaho winters and are accustomed to driving on winter roads.
Q: Are you able to notify customers ahead of time if their order will be late?
A: When a given route is running more than 30 minutes behind, our transportation manager notifies customer service so they can notify the customers on the route of the delay. Grasmick prides itself on its service. Without our amazing customers, we would not be in business.
Q: How long does it usually take to get the delivery schedule back on track after a delay?
A: For our routes located in the Treasure Valley, our delivery schedule resets each day, so we are able to get back online the next day. Our out-of-town routes take a little longer to reset because the trucks are often on the road for two to three days before they return to the facility.
When winter weather makes travel difficult, Grasmick Produce customers can still rely on timely and responsive service. To help us better serve you, contact us with any questions or concerns.
